Mariners from World War II finally will get a long deserved recognition.
President Trump signed the Merchant Mariners of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2020 into law on March 13.
The bill (HR 5671) calls for the creation of a gold medal to honor World War II merchant mariners. The medal would be displayed in the American Merchant Marine Museum at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in New York. Duplicates then would be struck and made available to the public.
The MTD, which has supported this measure, salutes the hard work performed by the officers and members of the American Merchant Marine Veterans. The MTD also appreciates the work of all the members of Congress and their staff and the White House who supported this legislation.
