Greater South Florida PMC members gather after they painted the Dania Beach Lions Club building.

Members of the Greater South Florida Maritime Trades Council jumped on a request from the Broward County AFL-CIO to assist a local not-for-profit organization in need of a little help.

PMC Vice President Kris Hopkins said the local labor council asked if the PMC could put a crew together to paint the nearby Dania Beach Lions Club earlier this month.

“We did it without hesitation,” Hopkins reported. “We know all the good work done in the community by the Lions. We were glad to help.”

Several affiliates volunteered union members who completed the job in one day.

MTD Executive Secretary-Treasurer Daniel Duncan, a 35-year member of the Lions himself, noted how much such assistance means to that club as all Lions Clubs must use the money they collect from non-members to aid their communities rather than be used on behalf of the club.
