San Francisco Port Council Hears Calls to Defeat Anti-Labor Proposition 32

blog-stock-new

Delegates attending the September meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area and Vicinity Port Maritime Council heard from state and local union officials urging members and their families to defeat Proposition 32 on California’s November 6 ballot.

Susan Sachen, who serves as the California Labor Federation Director for Campaign/Strategic Planning, stated the ballot measure will silence Labor’s voice in the political process by stopping union political contributions to candidates. She noted Proposition 32 actually gives super PACs and corporate special interests special exemptions while cutting back on the ability of unions to be involved.

Adding to Sister Sachen’s call was Tim Paulson, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the San Francisco Labor Council. He pointed out efforts among the many locals throughout the city to urge members and their families to vote “No” on Proposition 32. Notable among those is a voter registration drive being conducted by the Sailors’ Union of the Pacific.
