As the MTD recognizes its 74th anniversary, the Department announces two new members to its Executive Board.

Artie Maratea is serving as Executive Board Member for the Transportation•Communications Union/IAM (TCU), replacing Robert Scardelletti.
Maratea was elected National President of the TCU by its Executive Council following Scardelletti’s August 1 retirement.
Maratea joined Local 1444 in 1989 while he was working for the Long Island Railroad. He became the local’s president in 1991 and its chairman in 1994.
In 2003, he was elected General Chairman of Long Island System Unit 167. Eight years later, he was elected to the TCU Executive Council as National Vice President.
Maratea became Special Assistant to the President in 2017 where he headed the Industry Relations and Social Services Departments.
The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) appointed David Woods as its MTD Executive Board Member.

Woods started serving as the International Secretary-Treasurer for the BCTGM earlier this year.

He joined Local 165G in Knoxville, TN, in 1989. He was serving as the local’s principal officer when it merged into Local 25 in 2004, and became its Assistant Business Agent.
Woods was elected Local 25 Business Agent/Financial Secretary in 2007. He became BCTGM Southern Region International Representative in 2007 and its International Vice President in 2019.
Woods comes from a strong union family. His father, Harold, was president of the Tennessee AFL-CIO, while his mother, Sylvia, was a local and regional leader for the Office and Professional Employees International Union.
“The TCU and BCTGM have been longtime affiliates of the Department,” noted MTD President Michael Sacco. “We welcome Brothers Maratea and Woods aboard and look forward to working with them.”
The MTD received its charter on August 19, 1946.
