Grassroots Maritime Organization Honors Mississippi Senator

blog-stock-new

The country’s largest grassroots maritime organization recently honored Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) for his work on behalf of the U.S.-flag maritime industry.

The American Maritime Partnership (AMP) – composed of community associations, labor unions, pro-defense organizations and maritime and maritime-related businesses – presented Wicker with its 2012 Champion of Maritime award.

“Sen. Wicker has consistently stood up for the American maritime industry,” said AMP Chairman James Henry. “He’s been a tireless fighter for an industry that is good for Mississippi and good for American national, economic and homeland security.”

In accepting the award Wicker said, “An active and viable maritime industry is critical to our nation’s national and economic security. Mississippi continues to play a proud and prominent role, and I look forward to continuing my work in the U.S. Senate on important maritime priorities.”

Wicker sits on two Senate panels that oversee the maritime industry: the Armed Services Committee and the Commerce, Science and Technology Committee.

The MTD is a member of AMP.
