Projects to enhance port security were high on the list of grants recently released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to a department spokesperson, $288 million will be set aside for port security, out of $789 million for critical infrastructure projects.
The $288 million for port security projects comes on top of $150 million contained in the administration’s infrastructure package.
The DHS says, “(These monies) will be used to protect critical port infrastructure from terrorism; enhance maritime domain awareness and risk management capabilities to protect against improvised explosive devises and other non-conventional weapons; and conduct training and exercises to fight against terrorism.”
