MTD Administrator Mark A. Clements

The Maritime Trades Department is proud to announce Mark A. Clements has joined the staff and will serve as Administrator.

In that position, the Maryland native will work directly with the president and executive secretary-treasurer in promoting the men and women of the U.S.-flag maritime industry. He will represent the department at AFL-CIO and affiliate meetings and assist in the writing of statements and resolutions. He also will oversee the archiving of the department’s records and history.

Clements comes to the MTD from the Seafarers Union where he worked for eight years as Assistant Director for Communications and Content Curator. He received his BA from Tulane University. He holds an MFA from Colorado State University and an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh.

He is active in Montgomery County, MD, where he serves on its historic preservation commission and on a voluntary housing advocacy organization called Montgomery for All.

“We look forward to Mark becoming part of the MTD team,” said MTD President Michael Sacco. “He has a strong background in the industry and has proven himself to be up for the challenges that come before our department.”

The administrator position has been vacant since 1993 when the late Frank Pecquex was promoted to Executive Secretary-Treasurer.
