Brother Brett McCoy will represent the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada (UA) on the MTD Executive Board. He replaces William Hite, who retired as the union’s general president last year.

McCoy was reelected in 2016 as an International Representative and serves as the UA’s Director of Metal Trades and Gas Workers Industry.

After being initiated into the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 525 of Las Vegas apprenticeship program in 1979, McCoy began jumping into various union activities including being named to its local credit union committee. Starting in 1991, he served on the local’s executive board for six years. In 1996, he was appointed the local’s first organizer. A decade later, he was elected business agent.

In 2007, McCoy stepped down from that post and was elected business manager, being reelected the following year. Also in 2008, General President Hite appointed him as a trustee to UA International Training Fund, becoming its chair in 2009.

Hite appointed McCoy to the position of Special Representative in 2011 and shortly thereafter he was named the UA’s Director of Organizing and Recruitment. He held that position until General President Mark McManus named him to his current title.

He and his wife, Laura, have a son, Jason, who become the family’s third generation UA member in 2006.
