The MTD mourns the passing of lifelong Labor activist Carolyn Jacobson, 67, on March 23 following a 2-year battle with cancer.
Sister Jacobson worked for 28 years with the MTD-affiliated Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union, retiring as its communications director in 2001. She was a founding member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), having attended its first conference in 1974. She remained active with CLUW on special projects until her death.
A 1972 graduate of the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations, she also served as the secretary-treasurer of the Berger-Marks Foundation, which promoted mentoring and advancement of young women into leadership positions.
“I have known and worked with Carolyn for decades,” recalled MTD Executive Secretary-Treasurer Daniel Duncan. “No matter the cause, no matter the project, she dedicated herself to giving her all. The Labor Movement is better and stronger thanks to her.”
