The MTD Executive Board approved Anthony Gonsiewski to serve as the department’s Vice President (pro tem), succeeding Jerry Abell, who retired at the end of March.

Brother Gonsiewski, who has regularly attended MTD Executive Board meetings for several years, is the president/business manager for International Union of Operating Engineers Maritime Local 25. He was promoted to the office after Abell retired from it as well.

Following the MTD Constitution Article VI, Section 2, President Michael Sacco placed Gonsiewski’s name before the Executive Board, who voted via paper ballots. With the board’s approval, Gonsiewski will serve until the next MTD convention, now scheduled for June 2022 in Philadelphia.

Gonsiewski is a third generation member of Local 25, having joined in 1977. He transitioned through multiple roles from deckhand to crane operator. He served as the local’s financial secretary/business agent between 2009 and 2016. He then was elected vice president/business agent in 2016. Working with Abell and others, he was actively involved in the development of a North Carolina training facility that promotes safety awareness for dredgers.

Married for 40 years, he is the father of three and grandfather to “soon to be four grandchildren.”

“Anthony is no stranger to the MTD,” stated Sacco in welcoming Gonsiewski aboard. “We look forward to him becoming part of the team.”
